Hundreds of people rescued safely from river waters by joint operation of District Administration, Army, BSF and Police

Rescue teams under the supervision of DC, SSP remained active all night

Ferozepur : Last night many people of flood affected villages of ferozepur district like Rukne Wala, Nihala Lavera, Bandala, Kale Ke, Jalo Ke, Dheera Kara, Talli Gram etc have been rescued safely under the supervision of Deputy commissioner Sh. Rajesh Dhiman, S. Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, SSP and the joint operation of Army, BSF and Punjab Police. Rescue team shifted the people to safer places and also saved their precious lives.
The Rescue operations were continued by the district administration and army throughout the night. Till morning, 10 motor boats and boats were operated to rescue people from the river water.
MLA Ferozepur Urban Mr. Ranbir Singh Bhullar, is also involved in relief works along with his team members. Disclosing this here today, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Rajesh Dhiman said that due to continuous rains during the last few days, the water level of the Sutlej river has increased significantly due to which the low lying villages of district adjoining the Sutlej have been affected.
He further said that he along with Mr. Bhupinder Singh, SSP visited the villages continuously and the situation is being monitored. He said that wherever the embankments of the Sutlej seemed weak, they have been strengthened by adding soil bags and the people of the areas where the water entered have been safely evacuated and taken to the relief camps.
He said that relief camps have been set up across the district where all kinds of facilities including medical assistance, langar, drinking water, beds and cattle feed have been arranged for the flood affected people. He said that local MLA Mr. Ranbir Singh Bhullar, the people of the area, NGOs are getting full support.
He said that the district administration is constantly monitoring the water of the river. He appealed to the people of the areas affected by the river to reach safer places along with their families, cattles.
He also appealed to the residents of the district to avoid any kind of rumours and contact the control room numbers established by district administation on districtr and tehsil level. SSP Sh. Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said that unsafe houses have been identified by the police.
He said that people are constantly being evacuated safely through motorboats from the houses affected by water and so far hundreds of people have come out and rescue operations are going on continuously. He said that sick, elderly, children and pregnant women have been shifted to safer places on priority basis.
On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Shri Arun Kumar, SDM Mr. Gagandeep Singh, Chairman Mr. Balraj Singh Katora, Tehsildar Ferozepur Mr. Sukhbir Kaur, Civil Surgeon Mr. Rajinder Pal, Naib Tehsildar Mr. Rakesh Aggarwal besides senior officers of The Indian Army were also present.
