Forest Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak reviews development works of Nature Awareness Parks at Dirba and Sunam

Parks being developed at a cost of about 1.36 crores at Dirba and about 75 lakhs at Sunam

Dirba/Sunam Udham Singh Wala : Punjab Forests and Wildlife, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak today reviewed the progress of development of nature awareness parks being built at Dirba and Sunam Udham Singh Wala. On this occasion, he directed the officials of the forest department to speed up the work and said that the works of these two parks should be completed by July 31 so that these parks could be dedicated to the people on Independence Day.
The cabinet minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, these parks were being developed at Dirba at a cost of Rs 1.36 crore and at a cost of Rs 75 lakh at Sunam under the Green Punjab Mission. He added that apart from providing a natural environment to people for walk, facilities like open gym, suitable place for children to play, gazebos would also be provided.
Cabinet Minister Mr. Kataruchak took strict notice of the lax performance of the Forest Range Officer at Dirba and directed the shifting of the officer. He categorically said that any deliberate negligence by any official in the development works will not be tolerated. He said that the Punjab government has continuously been working to increase the area under forests and a target to plant 1 crore 25 lakh saplings in the state has been set in the current year.
He said that all these saplings will be taken from the government nurseries in the state and the places for planting these saplings have been marked and by the end of June these saplings will be delivered to the respective places before the rainy season.
On this occasion, the minister was accompanied by IFS Sanjay Bansal, SSP Surendra Lamba, Forest Division Officer Monika Devi Yadav, SDM Rajesh Sharma, Finance Minister Cheema’s OSD Tapinder Singh Sohi, Sanjeev Kumar Sanju, Mukesh Juneja, Manpreet Bansal, Amrik Singh Dhaliwal and other leaders and officials were also present.
