Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign receiving overwhelming support from district residents : Mohinder Bhagat

‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign launched by the Punjab Government to eliminate drugs from the state is receiving overwhelming support from the people, said Punjab Horticulture Minister Mohider Bhagat while addressing ward defence committees. 

He mentioned that Every day, a large number of people are joining this movement.The Minister was addressing massive gatherings organized by the Ward Defense Committees under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign in Wards 54, 55, and 56.

Chaieing these meetings held in Lasuri Mohalla, Basti Mithu, and Baba Budha Ji Nagar, the Cabinet Minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state government is taking strict action against drug traffickers to eliminate drugs from Punjab. 

Alongside this, appropriate treatment facilities are being made available for addicts and their rehabilitation, and awareness campaigns are delivering the anti-drug message to every household. 

Mr. Bhagat highly appreciated the proactive role being played by the Ward Defense Committees in uprooting drugs, stating that these committees are not only working to prevent drug use in their respective villages/wards but are also making tireless efforts to reintegrate drug-dependent individuals into mainstream society.

He said that due to the campaign launched by the Punjab Government, many addicts are coming forward to free themselves from the clutches of drugs. He urged members of the Ward Defense Committees to turn the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign into a mass movement, taking it to every household in the district and making people aware of the harmful effects of drugs.

The Cabinet Minister said that the Punjab Government has not only broken the supply chain of drugs but has also sent those involved in the drug trade behind bars. Additionally, properties built with black money earned from drugs are being demolished by bulldozers. 

He added that the massive participation of people in the meetings of Ward Defense Committees is proof that the public has faith in the government’s efforts to eliminate drugs. Mr. Bhagat said no stone will be left unturned in transforming Punjab into a vibrant state. 

He added that the Punjab Government is focused on helping drug-dependent individuals quit their addiction and is paying special attention to their rehabilitation. On this occasion, he administered an oath to the people not to consume drugs, not to allow others to consume drugs, to oppose drug sales and those who assist drug traffickers, and to contribute to making Punjab drug-free. 

He urged the people to support the government’s campaign so that Punjab can become a drug-free and vibrant state. Also present on the occasion, police officials stated that full autonomy has been given to take action against drug traffickers. 

They appealed to citizens to share any information related to drugs through WhatsApp number 9779-100-200, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential. Representatives from the Health Department provided information about two de-addiction centers running in Civil Hospital Jalandhar and Nurmahal, the rehabilitation center in Shekhe village, and various outpatient clinics and other services. 

They informed that for further assistance, the District De-Addiction Helpline (0181-2911969) is also available. Also present on the occasion were prominent ward personalities, including Sandeep Verma, Mukesh Sethi, and Amit Luthra.
