That was not an Emergency, but an era of injustice; today’s opposition pretends to be democracy’s protector –Sh Gaurav Gautam
Minister of State for Sports Sh Gaurav Gautam said that calling the Emergency imposed in 1975 merely an “emergency” would be an understatement of the cruelty of that period. In reality, it was an era of injustice when the Constitution, freedom of expression, and the rights of ordinary citizens were brutally suppressed.
He added that when an elected representative takes the path of dictatorship and disregards the Constitution in the intoxication of power, the Emergency stands as the starkest example of the damage inflicted on democracy. On this occasion, Industry and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh, BJP State President Sh Mohan Lal Kaushik, MLAs Sh Mukesh Sharma, Sh Tejpal Tanwar, Smt Bimla Chaudhary, and other dignitaries were also present.
