World Himachali Organization to Launch Tree Plantation Drive on Martyrdom Day of Captain Vikram Batra

On the occasion of the 26th martyrdom anniversary of the brave Kargil war hero Captain Vikram Batra, a week-long tree plantation campaign titled “Ek Paudha Shaheed Vikram Batra Ke Naam” (A Plant in the Name of Martyr Vikram Batra) will be launched in and around Chandigarh on July 7. The campaign will be formally inaugurated by Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, who will plant a tree in Captain Batra’s memory at Raj Bhavan, officially commencing the drive. Captain Batra’s father, Mr. G.L. Batra, will be present at the event and will also participate throughout the week in the campaign wherever it is held.
This information was shared by Mrs. Asha Jaswal, Chairperson of the World Himachali Organization, after a formal meeting with Hon’ble Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at Punjab Raj Bhavan on Friday. She led a delegation of the organization comprising Vice Chairman Ravindra Pathania, President Amit Rana, and General Secretary Sanjay Rajput.
During the meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum to the Administrator and presented several suggestions. One key proposal was to name a park or public site in Chandigarh after Captain Vikram Batra to honor his supreme sacrifice.
The organization emphasized that this would be a true tribute to the martyr and would continually inspire citizens, especially the youth, keeping alive the legacy of his bravery. Mrs. Jaswal stated that Captain Batra had received his education in Chandigarh and shared a deep connection with the city.
After hearing the delegation’s proposal, Hon’ble Governor and Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria assured that he would present their suggestions to the concerned authorities and take positive steps in a fair and appropriate manner. The delegation expressed their gratitude to the Governor for his support and his agreement to plant a tree in the name of Captain Batra at Punjab Raj Bhavan.
