Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij said that the comprehensive development of Ambala Cantonment is the responsibility of the councillors and that people have high expectations from the elected representatives. 

Regardless of which ward they belong to, councillors bear responsibility for the whole city and must strive to serve it excellently. Sh. Vij was addressing a joint meeting this evening in Ambala Cantonment with BJP councillors of the Ambala Sadar Municipal Council, BJP office bearers and MC officials. 

During the meeting, he also reviewed development works being carried out by the Municipal Council. He stressed that councillors must focus fully on the city’s sanitation. Wherever cleaning is required, work should be done in collaboration with the Municipal Council. 

He instructed council officials that complaints received through the “Swachhta App” should be resolved within two hours, including those related to street lights. He also said any complaints made in person should be digitally recorded so that complainants can track their status.

Clean drains and sewers on a war footing before monsoon : Anil Vij

Sh. Vij emphasized that with the monsoon approaching, the main drains and sewers of Ambala Cantonment must be cleaned urgently. Machines should be used to clean stormwater pipelines, and desilting should be completed. 

He suggested increasing the number of sanitation workers if needed to ensure this work is completed in time. Councillors raised concerns about cow dung obstructing the cleaning of drains, to which Sh.Vij issued directions to the officials. 

He also reviewed the door-to-door garbage collection system and instructed that garbage should be collected from streets and homes according to set rules. Any negligence in sanitation work will not be tolerated, he warned.

Install traffic lights at multiple points on Jagadhri Road : Vij

In the meeting, Anil Vij directed the installation of traffic lights at Tangri Dam Chowk to control traffic on Jagadhri Road. He also instructed for lights to be placed at the intersection of Jagadhri Road and Stadium Road near Lalkurti, as well as at the GT Road T-point. 

He recommended regular maintenance and planting of decorative greenery for the beautification of Jagadhri Road. Fancy lights should also be installed up to the industrial area. Municipal officials informed that such lighting has been installed up to Tangri Dam and will soon be extended further.

Vacant plot owners must build boundary walls

During the meeting, councillors complained about garbage and waterlogging in vacant plots. In response, Anil Vij instructed officials to take action. Plot owners should be required to construct boundary walls, and action should be taken against those who fail to comply. 

Sh. Vij stated that he has built more than 125 dharamshalas during his tenure. Now, their management should be improved to increase Municipal Council revenue. He instructed officials to form committees for each dharamshala that include local councillors and other representatives. Bookings should be managed through the Municipal Council to ensure transparency and income generation.

Cleanliness of public toilets is a priority : Vij

Sh.Vij also instructed that public toilets located at various places in Ambala Cantonment must be kept clean. A private agency should be hired for their upkeep and maintenance to ensure better cleanliness.Various other matters were also discussed during the meeting.

On this occasion, SDM Vinesh Kumar, Municipal Council EO Devendra, Council Chairperson Swarn Kaur, Vice Chairperson Lalta Prasad, BJP leaders Rajiv Dimple, Kiranpal Chauhan, Vijender Chauhan, Sanjeev Soni, Rambabu Yadav, Vikas Baghal, Ravi Buddhiraja, Pravesh Sharma, and several other BJP leaders and councillors were present.
