Prominent Akali leaders join Congress

Three prominent leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal-Badal today joined the Congress. They include Rajinder Deepa from Sunam, Sarbjot Singh Sabi and Anil Thakur from Mukerian. They were inducted into the party by the Congress general secretary in-charge Punjab Bhupesh Bhagel in presence of the PCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition in Punjab assembly Partap Singh Bajwa and other senior party leaders. 

Welcoming them into the party, Bhagel said, it was a welcome development for the Congress as an atmosphere was prevailing across Punjab that the Congress is coming back. Coming events cast their shadow, he remarked, while suggesting that senior leaders from other political parties were looking forward to join the Congress. 

He said, there will be more such joining in the coming time.  Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Congress president Warring said, the writing is on the wall that the Congress is coming back. 

He disclosed that several leaders from other parties were in touch with him and wanted to join the party. He said they will soon be inducted into the party. “This is just the beginning as the winds of change have started blowing in Punjab”, he said, while adding that people of the state were fed up with the current AAP regime and they were looking forward to Congress.

Leader of the Opposition in Punjab assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa said that all the three leaders had immense contribution towards public service. He said, they will all prove to be great strength for the party which will get further stronger after their joining. 

He said, people in Punjab have realized that only the Congress can provide good and effective governance and watch the interest of Punjab and Punjabis. Senior party leaders present on the occasion included Brahm Mohindra, Rana KP Singh, Balbir Sidhu, Capt Sandeep Sandhu, Barindermeet Singh Pahra and others.
