Need for Extensive Campaign to Educate People on Dengue and Seasonal Fever Prevention: Komal Mittal

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal has underscored the urgent need to run an extensive awareness campaign to educate the public on preventive measures against Dengue and other seasonal fevers. Chairing a review meeting with officials from various departments engaged in Dengue prevention efforts across urban and rural areas, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the risk posed by stagnant water, which serves as a breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes.
She stressed that residents must be sensitized to regularly empty all water-holding containers—such as pots, fridge trays, and coolers—at least once a week to break the mosquito breeding cycle. The meeting was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrates, the Civil Surgeon, Senior Medical Officers, District Epidemiologist, District Development and Panchayat Officers, Block Development and Panchayat Officers, Assistant Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Mohali, Executive Officers of Municipal Councils, and officers from the Education Department.
DC Mittal directed the BDPOs and municipal authorities to conduct regular fogging in both rural and urban areas on a weekly rotational basis. She also urged the Education Department to raise awareness among students and teachers about dengue prevention when schools reopen after the summer break.
In a firm directive, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the Health Department, Local Bodies, and Panchayat Department to issue challans to property owners who fail to follow advisories related to weekly water disposal. Additionally, government offices must also be inspected and educated about preventive practices.
Among those present at the meeting were SDMs Divya P (Kharar) and Damandeep Kaur (Mohali), Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangita Jain, DDPO Baljinder Singh Grewal, DEO (Elementary) Darshanjit Singh, Assistant Commissioner MC Mohali Ranjeev Kumar, and Joint Deputy Director from ADC (Urban Development) Office Parvinder Singh Sarao.
