National Statistical Office Launches 80th Round Survey on Domestic Tourism and Household Travel

The National Statistical Office (NSO), Field Operations Division under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, is set to launch the 80th Round of Socio-Economic (SE) Survey focusing on Domestic Tourism Expenditure Survey (DTES) and National Household Travel Survey (NHTS). The survey will be conducted from 1st July 2025 to 30th June 2026.

In this regard, a three-day Regional Training Conference for field officers and officials from both Central and State government entities commenced today at Hotel Candy, Phase 11, Mohali, for the Regional Office (RO) – Mohali PB(S). The training aims to equip field staff with a thorough understanding of the survey concepts, definitions, and methodologies to ensure accurate and high-quality data collection.

The conference was inaugurated by Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Senior Statistical Officer and Head of Office, who welcomed the participants.Shri Himmat Singh Raghav, Deputy Director General, State Regional Capital Office, RO-Mohali, delivered the keynote address. 

He emphasized the significance of qualitative and quantitative data in effective policy formulation at both the Centre and State levels. He urged all participants to actively engage in the training sessions, clear their doubts, and give their best effort in the upcoming fieldwork.

He further highlighted the critical role of DTES and NHTS in capturing authentic data on household tourism and travel behavior, which would contribute to deriving meaningful ratios and indices related to tourism volume, frequency, and expenditure patterns.Shri Vikas Rundala, Assistant Director, along with other senior officials, conducted the technical training sessions during the conference.
