Meeting of Town Official Language Implementation Committee (Office-1) Held at Chandigarh

With the objective of promoting the use of Hindi in Central Government offices, undertakings, and corporations, the first half-yearly meeting of the Chandigarh Town Official Language Implementation Committee (Office-1), constituted by the Government of India, was held at Hotel Shivalik View, Sector 17, Chandigarh.
The meeting was chaired by Ms. Amrapali Das, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North-West Region, Chandigarh and Chairperson of the Committee. Around 135 Heads of Offices and senior officials from Central Government offices, corporations, boards, and undertakings located in Chandigarh participated in the meeting.During the meeting, the use of Hindi in Central Government offices in Chandigarh was reviewed, and discussions were held on achieving the targets set by the Government of India for the year 2025–26.
The Member Secretary, Ms. Neena Malhotra, Deputy Director (Official Language), informed that this year as well, various Hindi competitions such as essay writing, vocabulary tests, Hindi typing on computer, general Hindi knowledge, self-composed poetry recitation, miscellaneous competitions for Hindi officers/translators, and PowerPoint presentation contests will be organized for the personnel of Central Government offices, undertakings, and corporations in Chandigarh.
The Committee will also organize seminars for Official Language officers, workshops for translators, and Hindi workshops for employees. To encourage Hindi writing, it was also decided to conduct a magazine competition for Hindi writers working in member offices and for the in-house magazines published by these offices.
In her presidential address, Ms. Amrapali Das emphasized conducting official work in simple Hindi to the maximum extent possible. She stated that the development of any language lies in its usage—“The more a language is used, the stronger it becomes.” She urged everyone to increase the use of Hindi in their respective offices and contribute actively to its promotion and development.
