Maharashtra Gears Up for Global Cycling Spectacle

In a major push to boost sports tourism and promote healthier lifestyles, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Pune District Administration and the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) for the successful organisation of the ‘Pune Grand Challenge Tour 2026’ an annual international-standard cycling event poised to put Pune on the global sports map.
Held at Vidhan Bhavan, Mumbai, the ceremonial exchange marked the official start of preparations for what is envisioned to become one of the most popular cycling competitions in the world over the next three to four years.
CM Fadnavis said, “The Pune Grand Challenge Tour will not only establish Pune as a global hub for sports tourism but also showcase Maharashtra’s rich culture and traditions to cycling fans from over 200 countries.
This event will attract major investments in tourism and industry and promote a healthier lifestyle among citizens.”The event is expected to draw elite cyclists, sports enthusiasts, tourists, and global attention to Pune, creating new avenues for economic growth and cultural exchange. It will be a world-class platform that blends competitive sport with scenic routes and heritage exposure.
CFI President Pankaj Singh, along with senior officials and dignitaries, attended the MoU ceremony and expressed confidence in the event’s transformative impact on the sporting ecosystem in India.The Pune Grand Challenge Tour 2026 is a step forward in Maharashtra’s larger vision of making the state a premier destination for global events, innovation, and wellness-driven development.
