From Standards to Fields through Gram Chaupal” – A Unique Initiative by BIS Haryana Held in Village Mator (Kaithal)

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Haryana Branch Office, Kaithal organized a Gram Chaupal today in village Mator. This unique initiative aims to connect rural communities with the importance of Indian standards—particularly in agriculture and everyday domestic life.

The program began with a welcome address by the village Sarpanch, laying the foundation for discussions on quality and rural welfare. Ms. Aarti Chaudhary, Standards Promotion Officer, BIS Haryana, explained the objective of the Gram Chaupal.

She emphasized the importance of consumer safety, awareness of consumer rights, and the losses caused by uninformed purchases. She also guided villagers on identifying fake or substandard products and explained the procedure for filing consumer complaints.

Mr. Saurabh Chandra, Deputy Director & Scientific-C, BIS Haryana, shared the key activities of the Bureau of Indian Standards, such as standardization, certification, hallmarking, and quality promotion.

He provided information on essential standards related to agricultural and household products, helping the rural audience understand how these standards contribute to safety, efficiency, and cost savings.The program saw active participation from a large number of rural women, farmers, youth, and Panchayati Raj representatives.
