District Administration Sangrur Initiates Precautionary Measures to Mitigate Flood-Like Situation

In anticipation of the upcoming monsoon season, the District Administration Sangrur has initiated precautionary measures to mitigate the risk of flood-like situations. Deputy Commissioner, Sandeep Rishi, has instructed various departments to complete necessary tasks before the monsoon season.

In a meeting with officials, Sandeep Rishi emphasized the importance of preparedness in dealing with natural disasters. He directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) to prepare a District Disaster Management Plan and ensure its implementation.

To prevent flooding, Sandeep Rishi instructed the immediate cleaning of the Ghaggar river, which flows through the district, and completion of the task before June 30. He also emphasized the need for cleaning of syphons, ponds, and drains in villages and cities to ensure smooth water flow.

Sandeep Rishi warned that Executive Officers would be personally responsible if water accumulates in cities due to lack of preparedness. He directed the use of super suction and jetting machines provided by the Punjab government for cleaning purposes.

The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the preparation of relief camps, communication plans, and identification of hotspots. He directed the Civil Surgeon to constitute district and tehsil-level response teams and ensure availability of medicines.

The District Administration is confident that the measures taken will help mitigate the risk of flood-like situations. Last year’s strengthening of embankments is expected to help keep the situation under control this year.

He said thay the District Administration Sangrur was committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens during the monsoon season.
