CM Devendra Fadnavis Leads Signing of 240 MW Tillari Hydroelectric Project Agreement

Maharashtra has taken a significant leap toward a greener and energy-secure future with the signing of a harmony agreement between the State’s Irrigation Department and ‘Shri Tatyasaheb Kore Warna Sahakari Navashakti Nirman Sanstha, Warananagar’. 

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the proposed 240 megawatt Tillari Inauguration Hydroelectric Project was formalized today in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Vidhan Bhavan, Mumbai.This landmark ₹1008 crore project—marking the 16th such renewable energy MoU in the state—will generate employment for 300 individuals and is Maharashtra’s first hydroelectric initiative to be executed through the cooperative sector.

CM Fadnavis lauded the state’s strides in power generation and emphasized the growing importance of unconventional energy. “Given the increasing demand for electricity in the future, pump storage will play a crucial role. This is not just a project—it’s a movement towards sustainable energy security,” said Fadnavis. 

He revealed the state has already signed agreements for 65,000 MW capacity in pump storage and aims to reach 1,00,000 MW, backed by a ₹1 lakh crore investment.He further commended the Warna Group for its pioneering legacy in the cooperative movement and expressed confidence in their contribution to the timely completion of the project.

Key Details of the Tillari Hydroelectric Project:

Capacity: 240 MW

Investment: ₹1008 crore

Employment: 300 jobs

Upper Dam Location: Kodali Dam, Chandgad, Kolhapur

Lower Dam Location: Mauje Centre, Dodamarg, Sindhudurg

Annual Rent: ₹1.33 lakh per megawatt per reservoir, in addition to water charges and land rent

With this addition, Maharashtra now counts 45 renewable energy projects under its belt, drawing a total investment of ₹3.41 lakh crore and promising to create over 96,000 job opportunities. The Western Ghats, said CM Fadnavis, offer immense potential for pump storage infrastructure.

Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, MLA Dr. Vinay Kore, and several senior government officials were present at the signing ceremony.This hydroelectric initiative underscores the Government of Maharashtra’s commitment to blending innovation, sustainability, and employment generation—powering progress while fueling a green future.
