CASO-Commissionerate Police arrested five person

The Commissionerate Police have arrested five persons with recovery of heroin during a CASO operation under Punjab Government’s Yudh Nashean Virudh campaign. Giving details, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said that the CASO operation was carried out at village Talwandi under police station Ladowal resulting in arrest of five accused.
He said in different recoveries 150 and 170 grams of heroin. He said these accused were facing 18 NDPS cases while presently on bail. He said that the police was keeping a close eye on eight persons of which five had been nabbed. On a tip of and complaints from people, the Police have initiated the action in village Talwandi. The Police Commissioner said that the CIA, Crime Branch and Special Cell in Ludhiana was jointly working to contain drugs thus yielding satisfactory results.
He said that these trio branches had been given the responsibility of breaking the drug supply chain. While speaking about the action taken by the Commissionerate Police under the Yudh Nashean Virudh campaign during the last four months, Swapan Sharma said that during this period as many as 467 cases of NDPS Act have been registered in the Ludhiana Commissionerate besides arresting 623 persons indulged in the drug trade have.
He said that 20 kg heroin, 15 kg opium and about 300 kg poppy husk have been recovered by the police in last four months. Speaking about the conviction rate in NDPS Act cases at Commissionerate Ludhiana, Swapan Sharma said that there is a 92 percent conviction rate in the cases of the Commissionerate.
He said that 14 properties related to drug smugglers have been frozen, worth about Rs 3 crore. He said that 10 illegal and occupied properties related to drug smugglers have been demolished within the limits of the Commissionerate Police. He said that so far 18 CASO operations have been carried out and drug smugglers have been tightened, besides the police have admitted 105 people who were drug addicts were shifted to rehabilitation centers while 627 persons were being treated at OATT clinics.
He said that under the Sampark meetings started as many as 345 meetings had been held with the people and they have been made aware of the ill effects of drugs. He said that police patrolling is also being intensified in the city so that crime can be contained.
On this occasion, DCP (Investigation) Harpal Singh, ACP Harshpreet Singh, ADCP Kanwalpreet Singh were present. Swapan Sharma categorically said that that the Commissionerate Police is getting a special entry in the bail orders of those coming out on bail in drug cases that if they get involved in the drug business again, their bail will be cancelled. He said that the Commissionerate Police has cancelled the bails in 6 such cases.
