BJP Observes ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ on 50th Anniversary of Emergency

On the 50th anniversary of the Emergency imposed in India by the Congress Party by tampering with the Constitution, the Bharatiya Janata Party organized a seminar on ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ at the party headquarters Kamalam. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri told about the atrocities committed on the countrymen by the Congress government led by Indira Gandhi during the Emergency.
On this occasion, BJP State President Jatinder Pal Malhotra, Program Coordinator Shakti Prakash Devshali, former State President and Co-in-charge of Himachal Sanjay Tandon, former President Arun Sood, former MP and Additional Solicitor General Satyapal Jain, Program Coordinator Jagtar Dhillon, Ruchi Sekhri and Sameer Gupta along with all the state officials, District President, Front President, Mandal President were present.
Hardeep Puri said that on the night of 25-26 June 1975, the then Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi forcibly imposed Emergency in the country only to save her chair. Playing with the basic spirit of the Constitution, 48 amendments were made in the Constitution in 21 days. More than 1,11,000 citizens of the country were put in jail.
Newspaper presses were locked, electricity was cut off. Censorship was imposed on news. On the orders of Indira Gandhi’s son Sanjay Gandhi, about 60 lakh people were forcibly sterilized by arresting them from their homes. Many unmarried youths were also sterilized. The slum of the poor built near Turkman Gate was destroyed and dozens of people were killed in police firing.
On this occasion, democracy fighters Deshraj Tandon and Jatinder Chopra, who were jailed under MISA law during the Emergency, were publicly honored.Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri inaugurated an exhibition based on the Emergency at the party headquarters Kamalam. After this, he gave the message of environmental protection by planting saplings in the BJP office premises.
