Amarinder Singh Raja Warring calls for police reforms to fix responsibility in fake cases

Taking a stringent stand against the misuse of police and their willingness to oblige their political bosses and victimize innocent people by registering false cases, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today said that once Congress forms the government it will set up a judicial commission to probe such cases.
Addressing the ‘Save Constitution’ meeting in Dakha assembly segment, in the city outskirts organized by Capt Sandeep Singh Sandhu here today, he alleged that there was complete abuse of the constitution in Punjab with a section of police betraying their uniform.
Calling for tough and stringent measures to fix responsibility for false cases, he suggested that any official who is found to have registered a false case should not only be dismissed from the service, but should also be made to spend same period of time in jail as the innocent victim of the false FIR.
Alleging that Punjab had turned into a police state he referred to the killing of one person in police custody recently. He said there was no accountability and called for this practice to stop. He said, Punjab needs serious police reforms to prevent the misuse of power.
The PCC president took a dig at the Punjab government’s campaign against drugs, ‘Yudh Nashya Virudh’. Referring to the claims by the AAP government that it had registered 8500 cases, he asked, “do drugs finish with mere registrations of FIRs or demolishing houses of people?”
“Drugs are still being frequently peddled and people are still dying with drug overdose”, he said, while referring to the complete failure of the government in curbing the drugs from the state.
Warring expressed his gratitude to people of Dakha and the general secretary organization Capt Sandeep Sandhu who is also the constituency in-charge, saying without their support he would not have been able to win the Ludhiana parliamentary seat.
The PCC president on this occasion also re-inducted the suspended Phillaur Congress MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhry into the party, saying he was a “dyed in wool third generation Congressman”. He said, party will be strengthened with his return to his mother party, the Congress.
Among those present on the occasion included former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, former MLAs Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Lakhwinder Lakha, Kudleep Singh Vaid, Sukhpal Bhullar and others.
