PSPCL Honors Raj Kumar for Silver Medal Win at 4th Para Asian Games

Patiala : The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) celebrated and honored its Junior Sports Officer, Raj Kumar, for his remarkable achievement at the recently concluded 4th Para Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Raj Kumar, along with his partner Chirag Baretha, an ITO from Uttarakhand, made the nation proud by securing a silver medal in the Men’s Double Badminton event.
Raj Kumar and Chirag Baretha’s journey to the podium was filled with outstanding skills and sportsmanship, garnering attention from sports enthusiasts across the country. Their impressive performance throughout the tournament drew praise from fans and fellow athletes alike.
The Indian duo faced a challenging match against a Vietnamese pair in the semifinals, which extended to a gripping three-set showdown. Despite losing the first set by 16-21, they exhibited tremendous resilience and determination, ultimately winning the next two sets 21-17 and 21-15, securing their place in the final.
In the gold medal match, Raj Kumar and Chirag Baretha faced their Indonesian opponents in a closely contested match. Both teams delivered outstanding performances, but the Indian pair narrowly missed the top spot, settling for a well-deserved silver medal after a closely contested match that ended 1-2 in favor of Indonesia.
S. Jasbir Singh Sur Singh, Director Admin (PSPCL), extended his heartfelt congratulations to Raj Kumar for his exceptional performance. He emphasized that PSPCL is dedicated to promoting sports among its staff, and Raj Kumar’s achievement serves as an inspiration to all employees.
The corporation takes pride in its dedicated sports officers and athletes who bring glory to the organization and the state of Punjab. Director Admin revealed that in recognition of Raj Kumar’s remarkable achievement, PSPCL had presented him with a financial token of support. Additionally, Raj Kumar will be promoted to the position of Sports Officer as per PSPCL’s sports policy.
Director Admin also highlighted PSPCL’s ongoing efforts to enhance the performance of its sports teams and the overall fitness of its employees. He mentioned that the proposal to establish a state-of-the-art gymnasium in Patiala is currently under consideration, aiming to provide world-class training facilities for PSPCL’s athletes and staff.
In addition to the gym, Director Admin shared that PSPCL is also exploring the development of two sports grounds, one in Patiala and the other in Amritsar. These grounds are intended to further support and nurture sporting talents within the organization, providing an infrastructure that fosters excellence in various sports disciplines.
Er. Tej Pal Bansal, Deputy Chief Engineer/Technical cum in-charge of the Sports Cell of PSPCL, expressed the corporation’s commitment to promoting badminton as a preferred sport within PSPCL. He also mentioned plans to organize the Inter-board Badminton Tournament as a platform for employees to showcase their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
