Cabinet Minister Brahm Mahindra lays foundation stone of Rs 800 crore development projects in Mohali

Announces to increase perimeter of Mohali Municipal Corporation up to 3 km and to start city bus service

S.A.S. Nagar : Sprucing up the pace of development works being carried out by the Punjab government in Mohali city, the foundation stone of various development projects to be constructed in the city at a cost of Rs. 800 crore were today laid by Punjab Local Bodies Minister Brahm Mahindra. He was accompanied by MLA Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu, Mayor Mr. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Isha Kalia, SSP Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal, MC Commissioner Mr. Kamal Kumar Garg, District Congress President Rishav Jain besides a large number of local leaders, Municipal Councillors and other dignitaries.Addressing the gathering during the functions Cabinet Minister Mr. Brahm Mahindra said that today he inaugurated the first phase of Rs. 375 crore water treatment plant being constructed at village Sinhpur and laid the foundation stone of the second phase. He also laid the foundation stone of new bus stand at Sector-77, Mohali to be constructed with the cost of Rs.150 crore, Bhagat Asa Ram Baidwan Auditorium at Sector-78 which would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 15 crore and Sewerage Treatment Plant at Sector-83 at a cost of Rs.145 crore. He said that besides this the Punjab government has also accorded the consent for launching city bus service for Mohali city. He said that the construction work of all these projects would be completed within the stipulated time frame. He said that after the construction of a bus stand in the central part of the city covering an area of 14 acres on Airport Road, it would be convenient for the passengers to travel to Chandigarh Sector-43 bus stand and from Chandigarh to other cities of Punjab via Mohali.
Brahm Mahindra while addressing a function held in Sector-78 said that conceding the long standing demand of the people, the Punjab Government has decided to extend the perimeter of Mohali Municipal Corporation up to 3 kms, which would ushered in a new era of prosperity and provide much needed impetus to the development of the city.On the occasion former Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu said that the water treatment plant of village Sinhpur would meet the drinking water requirement of Mohali city for next 20 years. He said that GMADA had constructed 80 MGD capacity water pipeline at a cost of Rs.200 crore from Bhakra Main Line Kajoli to village Sinhpur. Of this, 45 MGD part belongs to Mohali city. He said that in the first phase treatment plant of the capacity of 20 MGD has been constructed at a cost of Rs.115.80 crore and under the second phase treatment plant of the capacity of 25 MGD is to be upgraded for which tenders (cost Rs. 192 crore) have already been floated. He said that 6 MGD of water would also be supplied to Kharar and Morinda from the water treatment plant to be constructed under the second phase. Mr. Sidhu said that an auditorium named after eminent playwright Gursharan Singh alias Bhai Manna ji would be constructed at Bhagat Asa Ram Baidwan Auditorium in Sector-78 so that the emerging playwrights could take inspiration from his life and hone their skills.On this occasion Mayor Amarjit Singh Sidhu welcomed the Cabinet Minister Mr. Brahm Mahindra and other dignitaries present and apprised them of the demands and difficulties of the city and said that the hard work and leadership of former Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu borne fruits today as the foundation stones of all these development projects have been laid by the Punjab Government. He also appealed the people of Mohali to support Mr. Sidhu, who stood by them in their hour of need, with a record number of votes in the forthcoming assembly elections.
