Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain reviews flood protection measures

Directs to clean drains in time and remain vigilant

S.A.S Nagar : Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Ashika Jain held a meeting with the officials of various departments to review the arrangements regarding the flood protection measures in wake of the coming monsoon season .She issued necessary instructions to them to gear up to deal with the upcoming situation during rains .
She emphasized on paying special focus to cleaning the drains. While presiding over the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner said that by preparing ahead of time, the crisis situation could be dealt with properly and efficiently. Keeping in view the upcoming monsoon season, the district administration should be fully prepared to avert any emergency.
Instructing the officials of various departments to ensure adequate arrangements in advance, the Deputy Commissioner said that they should work in tandem to avert apprehension of floods.She said that flood lights, search lights, life jackets etc. should be checked and arranged in advance and if any item needs repair, it should be repaired immediately.
Apart from this, before the monsoon, the drainage and sewage of cities and villages should also be cleaned and the required certificate should be submitted after completion of the work. She said that any kind of carelessness in terms of arrangements will not be tolerated, so the assigned responsibility should be performed diligently and honestly.
She further said that besides cleaning of drains/channels etc, provision of clean drinking water, medical teams and medicines, medicines and fodder for animals, uninterrupted communication system, electricity supply, vehicles, installation of wireless sets, etc be ensured. The list of swimmers, boatmen and divers etc. should also be kept ready in advance.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the cleaning of village ponds should be ensured on time for proper drainage of water. She ordered to chalk out a plan to identify the damaged roads during the rainy season and in case of road breakdown or any obstruction in the road traffic, it should be cleared immediately.
Similarly, if trees etc. fall on a road due to a storm, then trees etc. should be removed from the road while taking necessary action in this regard.
She instructed the officials of the drainage department that if the culverts are closed on the roads of villages and cities, they should be cleaned and opened immediately. She further said that to deal with emergency-like situations during the monsoon season, safer places should also be identified in villages and cities so that proper arrangements can be made to rescue people in safe places.
Besides others, Damanjit Singh Mann, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development), Paramdeep Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Amit Bambi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Mrs Sarabjit Kaur SDM. Mohali, Ravinder Singh SDM Kharar, Himanshu Gupta SDM and Officials from various departments, were present.
