Administration holds basketball tournament of government schools under YUG program

Ludhiana : Sports play a key role in the character development of individuals and teach team spirit, discipline, leadership, and hard work to achieve goals. The remarks were made by Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik while inaugurating a basketball tournament of government schools’ students in the local Guru Nanak Stadium organized by the district administration under the Youth In Urban Governance (YUG) program with support of Ludhiana Cares Ladies Society.
Malik said that this was first of kind initiative to engage the students of government schools in sports for their overall personality development. She said the state government under the able leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was making all-out efforts to promote sports amongst the Punjabi youth.
She said that this was the need of the hour to engage the youth in sports which could help them to excel in their lives and asked them to become ambassadors of their respective areas. She said that district administration was fully committed to the betterment and development of the Youth of the State.
The Deputy Commissioner said that school students would be trained by certified coaches under supervision of Teja Singh Dhaliwal, the doyen of Basketball nationally. She further said that Ludhiana Cares Ladies Society ( Regd) was already offer free coaching to Govt School students at Chattar Singh Park, Model Town by setting up a basketball court and getting certified men and women coaches for these students.
Malik expressed gratitude towards Teja Singh Dhaliwal and Ludhiana Cares Ladies Society for their wholeheartedly support in successful organization of the tournament. She further informed that 47 students got certificates for coaching for 2 months summer camp under YUG across Govt High school Jawaddi, Ambedkar and Jhoolewal School Model Town.
Today, the final match was played between Govt Sen Sec Multi purpose school and Government Senior Secondary Smart School Model Town and Teja Singh Dhaliwal Rolling trophy was awarded to Govt Sen Sec Multi purpose school. Free coaching for all Govt school children will be continued at Chattar Singh Park where there are both certified men and women coaches.
Teja Singh Dhaliwal is the main motivator and patron in setting up this coaching centre. It is only with his continued support and guidance that the District Administration is being able to run this basketball training of Govt school children so successfully.
DEO (Secondary) Dimple Madaan and DSO Rupinder Singh were also present on the occasion.
