Drink boiled or chlorinated water only to prevent diarrhoea and cholera, DC Ashika Jain to residents

15 Rapid Response Teams Formed for Door Door Survey and making aware of the residents

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar : Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain has appealed to the people to drink boiled water or water treated with chlorine given the diarrhoea and cholera cases coming up in the district. She said that all possible efforts are being made by the district administration to prevent the people from these diseases and residents are also being made aware.
She said that so far 20 cases of diarrhoea including one case of cholera have been reported in the district, out of which 08 patients of diarrhoea including one case of cholera are under treatment at Civil Hospital, Mohali. Deputy Commissioner Mrs Aashika Jain visited the affected area Kumbhara along with teams from the Health, Municipal Corporation and Water Supply and Sanitation Departments and directed that till re-sampling is done, water should be supplied to the people through tankers.
The Water Supply and Sanitation Department apprised the Deputy Commissioner that the source of contamination of water Amy be the water being used from the underground tanks by the residents of the area which need immediate cleaning. She emphasized that even if people use this water for bathing or washing clothes etc., they should use the water supply or the water provided by the tanker for drinking.
The People have also been asked to clean their underground tanks. The Deputy Commissioner said that cholera and diarrhoea cases are under control in the district but still, we need to take precautions. The water supply and sanitation department in the district is constantly taking samples and checking.
She appealed to the people that these diseases could be prevented by drinking boiled water during the rainy season. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the officials of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department that wherever the cases of diarrhoea and cholera come to the fore, they should stop the water supply in case the source of contamination is this supply and ensure the supply of clean water with tankers.
After finding out the cause of water contamination and taking necessary measures, water supply should be restored. Along with this, she appealed to the people to drink boiled water and to put chlorine tablets in the water tanks to keep them free from contamination. The Deputy Commissioner said that the cases of diarrhoea and cholera are under control, but people need to be more aware of the use of potable water.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the officials of the Health Department and the Water Supply and Sanitation Department to speed up the door-to-door survey. The officials of the health department were also instructed to ensure that the maximum number of health check-up camps are conducted.
She also reviewed the health services being provided to the people by holding a medical camp on this occasion. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Mrs Sonam Chaudhary, SDM Mohali Deepankar Garg, Civil Surgeon Davinder Kumar, Municipal Corporation Superintending Engineer Naresh Bata, Executive Engineer Water Supply and Sanitation Ramandeep Singh, District Epidemiologist Dr. Harman, District Immunisation Officer Dr Subhash were among the officers present there.
In the evening, the Deputy Commissioner also took a review meeting of the Health Department and MC Commissioner Navjot Kaur and Other officials and passed on the necessary instructions to prevent the outbreak of diarrhoea and cholera in the city and district. She also directed the Health officials to form 15 Rapid Response Medical Teams (five for each Sub Division) that would visit the Hot Spot Areas to make the residents aware of IEC activities and Door to Door Survey and Sampling.
