Uninterrupted power supply ensured despite the floods : Harbhajan Singh ETO

Patiala : Punjab Power and Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO on Monday inspected the power grid affected by flood water at Badshahpur in the district. He announced plans to replace the 43-year-old electricity building of this grid with a new ultra modern building.
Interacted with the local residents on this occasion, the Power Minister said that on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Power department maintained uninterrupted power supply while fighting the challenges caused by the floods in the various parts of the state.
Earlier during an informal interaction with the media, Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that the floods had affected the electricity infrastructure in 200 villages of Patiala region alone but the Punjab State Power Corporation has taken immediate measures to completely restore power supply in 198 villages.
Replying to a media query, the Power Minister said that due to the recent storm, the PSPCL had suffered a loss of Rs 31 crore due to the storms this year, while the loss due to floods is being estimated. He said that the current priority of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government is to evaluate the loss faced by the general public of the state due to these floods.
Harbhajan Singh ETO further added that the thermal power plants of the state have coal reserves for 45 days and there would be no shortage of power in the state. He said that despite the increased demand, on June 23 the Power department met the highest ever demand of 15,325 MW.
He said the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been providing free electricity to the residents of the 90 percent of the consumers of the state besides ensuring uninterrupted power supply to all its consumers.
The Power Minister said that the Punjab government is proud of the hard employees of the Power department, who worked day and night to ensure uninterrupted power supply despite the floods. On this occasion, the Power Minister was accompanied by CMD PSPCL Baldev Singh Saran and Director Distribution DPS Grewal.
