Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh Leads the Campaign ‘Har Shukkarvar Dengue te Vaar’ in Urban Areas of Mohali

Visits houses and Parks to check dengue mosquito larvae in Mohali Sector 78

Mohali : Continuing with the campaign ‘Har Shukarvar Dengue Te Var ‘ launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann last Friday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Friday again himself visited the houses located in Sector 78 of SAS Nagar Mohali to create awareness amongst the urban residents.
He said that the area was chosen for mass awareness activity as it was a dengue hotspot previous year.Accompanied by Municipal Corporation, Mohali, Commissioner Navjot Kaur, Director Health and Family Welfare Dr Adarshpal Kaur, SDM Ravinder Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Mahesh Kumar Ahuja, State Program Officer NVBDCP Dr Arshdeep Kaur and other senior health officials , the Minister asserted people to observe every Friday as Dry Day, which is dire need of the hour to prevent Dengue and other vector borne diseases.
The Cabinet Minister went door to door and checked various vessels, Water tanks, flower pots, vessels used for offering water to birds lying outside or inside the houses, parks and construction sites. In each and every place checked by the Minister, dengue larvae were found and the Minister took the opportunity to aware the residents regarding the campaign.
He stated that health education and awareness is the key to prevent dengue and this IEC (Information Education and Communication) campaign will continue upto December until which the breeding season of mosquito larvae lasts.
During his visit, the Minister also took strong notice of the larvae found in the vacant plots and instructed the Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Mohali to take appropriate action. He also released Gambusia fish in the stagnant water in one such plot.
Dr Balbir Singh made an appeal to the residents to give their one hour from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM every Friday for carrying out anti dengue activities in and around their houses. All the flower pots, coolers, refrigerator trays and any other vessels lying in open should be drained and dried so that the breeding cycle of mosquito larvae is broken, which takes a week for turning into a mosquito.
The Minister also stated that although test and treatment of dengue is totally free in government hospitals but we can protect ourselves from dengue by following some simple precautions. Dr Balbir Singh also made an appeal to some residents to come forward and lead this campaign in their societies or Mohallas by educating people regarding such precautionary measures.
