Ghanshyam Thori confers Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar to 38 schools

Program aimed to recognize, inspire and celebrate excellence in sanitation and hygiene practice in schools- Ghanshaym Thori

Jalandhar : Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Friday conferred Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2021-2022 to 34 government and four private schools of the district for excelling in best water and sanitation management.

Handing over awards to the schools, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar, an initiative by Ministry of Education, was started to recognize, inspire and celebrate excellence sanitation and hygiene practice in schools.

He further added that the Department of School Education and Literacy had invited entries from schools for Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar.

Thori said that 764 schools government, government-aided and private in rural and urban areas were eligible under the program and survey was conducted by 83 evaluators in Jalandhar of which 38 schools including 34 government and four private schools were selected by district level committee.

The Deputy Commissioner added under the initiative, the authorities of these schools were motivated for promoting safe and hygiene practices among the children besides significantly improving water and sanitation facilities in the premises.

He said that the performance of the schools had been evaluated under six sub-categories including Drinking water, toilets, hand-washing with soap, operation and maintenance, capacity building, and COVID-19 preparedness and response.

Lauding the authorities of schools for getting prestigious award, Deputy Commissioner said that they had exhibited commendable commitment towards best water and sanitation management.Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Deputy DEOs Rajiv Joshi, GS Multani and others.
