Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer Okays Revamp Plan Of Printing And Stationery Department

Bhagwant Mann government committed to strengthen government departments

Chandigarh : Following the guidelines of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to strengthen the government departments, Printing and Stationery Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer has given instructions to revamp the printing and stationery department which has been neglected by the previous governments.

By purchasing new machines, it should be ensured that the printing work of all government departments and institutions is get done from the government press.

In a high-level meeting of the department here today, Meet Hayer said that with the invention of new technologies of printing in the modern era, new machinery is needed, for which the department should purchase new hi technology machines for Government Press located in Patiala and SAS Nagar.

To raise the standard of printing, multi-color digital machines and offset machines should be purchased with an amount of Rs.1.40 Crore besides going in for the state of the art machines, in the next budget session. He gave a green signal to the plan of restructuring the department and said that technology experts should be recruited as per the need.

It was also decided in the meeting that the land of Government press at Patiala be transferred to the PUDA under OUVGL scheme and in lieu of it, the PUDA would frame a proposal for providing funds in order to set up new machines at press building Patiala and S.A.S. Nagar press building apart from the renovation of the press building at S.A.S. Nagar and that of some quarters, 3 acres of land and press building at Patiala.

During the meeting, it was also decided that the best practices of other states of the country in which the printing and stationery department is working better, should be studied and implemented in Punjab.

Meet Hayer said that all the work of the department must be done as per the provisions of Printing and Stationery Manual-1975 but in modern era the modernization of press and technology has advanced enough for which there is a dire need to update the manual.

Besides, an interactive website should be created.Principal Secretary Printing and Stationery VK Meena, Controller Puneet Goel and Additional Controller Anand Sagar were also present in the meeting.
