Government school to be named after boxer Subedar Kaur Singh: Harpal Singh Cheema

Sangrur : A large number of renowned personalities paid tributes to Padma Shri Kaur Singh on his bhog ceremony held at the Gurdwara Sahib of village Khanal Khurd, Punjab. Punjab Finance Minister Mr. Harpal Singh Cheema paid tribute to the departed soul and remembered Kaur Singh’s outstanding contribution in the field of sports.
The cabinet minister said that the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Kaur Singh’s biography has been made part of the school syllabus. He said that the government school of village Khanal Khurd will be named after Subedar Kaur Singh by the Punjab government in honor of the great boxer.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that after rising from a small village Khanal Khurd, Kaur Singh tried his hand at boxing and gained fame all over the world by recording excellent victories at the national and international level despite very limited resources. Cabinet minister said that the contribution of Padma Shri Kaur Singh can never be forgotten.
He said that with the consultation of the villagers, the Punjab government will also soon construct a memorial in the memory of Olympian boxer Kaur Singh so that the children and young generation can learn from the life of this great boxer.
Finance Minister Cheema said that Kaur Singh himself was an institution who spent his entire life giving inspiration to others and by taking guidance from his, many sportspersons were today competing at the national and international level.
He expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and assured all support from the government. Meanwhile, Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer shared his grief with the family by sending a condolence message. On behalf of the district administration, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Dirba Rajesh Sharma offered floral tributes.
A large number of sports and social personalities including Dronacharya awardee Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu, AIG Gurmeet Singh, SSP Vigilance Harpal Singh, Retd: JS Cheema, Captain Manjit Singh, Prem Sharma, District Sports Officer Ranbir Singh Bhangu also paid tributes to the great boxer.
