Government Mohindra Colllege Holds 146th Annual Athletic Meet

Patiala : The 146th Annual Athletic Meet of Government Mohindra College, held today in college premises, in which as many as 350 students participated amidst a very zealous and competitive environment.
MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli presided over the afternoon session of the Athletic Meet besides the meet was inaugurated by Advocate Rahul Singh Saini son of Cabinet Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, who is a well known philanthropist, serves the society at grass-root level.
He is a champion for environmental causes and winner of the prestigious International Green Globe Award for outstanding contribution to the environment by Youth. The chief guest hoisted the college flag as he declared the Sports Meet open, after receiving an impeccable guard of honour led by college NCC commander Varun Kumar.
The march past was led by the college flag bearer Amrit Pal. Sushmit Sharma administered the Oath of sportsman spirit to the athletes. The Chief guest, in his address, promised complete support for Government Mohindra College, Patiala which is a leading college in Punjab. He opined that the Government of Punjab is instrumental in raising the health and education standards in the state.
He congratulated the college for organising such a grand meet for the physical and mental well being of its students.Ajit Pal Singh Kohli, MLA, Patiala (Urban) presided over the afternoon session of the Athletic Meet. He applauded the college for hosting such a vibrant event.
He congratulated all participants for their wholehearted participation in the sports meet. He opined that winning and losing is a part of the game, what matters most is the team spirit and discipline with which one plays, as sports engenders purposeful and meaningful social relationships as well.
The Principal of the college, Prof. Amarjit Singh thanked the chief guest for gracing the occasion and motivating our students and staff for their efforts. He said that sports and academics are both pivotal in the all-round development of the youth. Participation in sports activities will pay a rich dividend in terms of fitness, well-being and happiness.
The athletic meet took a flying start with 800 metres race for boys and 400 meters race for girls. Field events like, long jump, high jump, discuss throw, javelin throw, shot put followed the track events in which athletes of the college showcased their exemplary flexibility and competitive spirit of the students of the college.
100 metre race for boys and girls and 4 x 100 metre relay race provided a breath-taking finale to the mega event. Vikramjit Singh and Navjot Kaur were adjudged the best athletes among boys and girls. The following students bagged the top three positions in various categories (in descending order):
800 metre boys- The first four positions were bagged by Gurleen Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma and Shubham(1st).
400 metre girls- The first three positions were bagged by Divya, Kamalpreet Kaur, and Navjot Kaur(1st).
Long Jump boys- The first three positions were bagged by Vikramjeet Singh, Sarbjeet Singh, and Lachman Kumar(1st).
Shotput Girls- The first three positions were bagged by Rimpi, Harman Kaur and Navjot Kaur(1st).
Long Jump Girls- The first three positions were bagged by Riya, Navjot Kaur and Mehakpreet Kaur(1st).
Shotput Boys- The first three positions were bagged by Akashdeep, Sukhmanpreet Singh and Ranjit Singh(1st).
High Jump Boys- The first three positions were bagged by Ramandeep, Rajiv Kumar and Ankit Kumar(1st).
Discus Throw boys- The first three positions were bagged by Karandeep Singh, Sukhpreet Singh and Ranjit Singh(1st).
400 metre boys- The first three positions were bagged by Vikramjit Singh, Vishal Singh and Sukhdeep Singh(1st).
Mr. Sahil Chopra, ex-student and Olympic swimmer and now Excise Inspector, DSP Chand Singh from Crime against Women and Child Branch, Kamal Moonak a well acclaimed gymnast, S. Gursimran Singh, SHO, Div. 2, S. Heminder Singh Rinku Media Secretary, Jauramajra, Sukhpreet Singh, District Coach, former Principal Dr. Simrat Kaur, S. Parminder Singh, Principal Govt. State College Patiala, Dr. Swaraj Raj, Prof. Amrit Pal, Govt. College Nial Patran, Dr. Kamla Sharma, Prof. Inderjeet S. Cheema, S. Jagjeet Singh Kauli Senior Athletic Coach, Dr. Jagdish Gosai, graced the occasion.
The stage compering was handled by Prof. Rachna Bhardwaj, Prof. Mohammad Sohail, Prof. Gursev and Prof. Manmohan Sammi. The Athletic Meet concluded amid great competition, enthusiasm, fun, frolic and fan-fair.
