Youth should embrace the core spirit of Constitution and move forward in nation-building: Harivansh

Under the aegis of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, a grand youth conference on the theme “Principles and Features of the Constitution and the Role of the Legislature” was organized in the auditorium of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST), Murthal. 

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Sh. Harivansh attended the conference as the Chief Guest and called upon the youth to play an active role in nation-building.The Deputy Chairman said that under the leadership of Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, several initiatives have been undertaken, including capacity-building programmes for Secretariat officers, legislative drafting workshops, conferences for urban local body representatives, media interactions, and youth-oriented programmes such as Youth Parliament. 

He said these efforts are proving to be milestones in strengthening democratic values. Appreciating the innovations and positive initiatives of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, he stated that such steps are highly commendable for empowering democracy.

Sh. Harivansh said that Haryana is a state full of youthful energy, and its youth have made a mark at national and international levels in sports, agriculture, security, entrepreneurship and cultural fields. He urged young people to understand the changing global scenario and explore new opportunities through innovation, entrepreneurship and skill development. 

He said that with determination and clear goals, youth can not only shape their own future but also take the nation to new heights.Referring to the life and struggles of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram, he said that he was a visionary farmer leader who gave a new direction to the rural economy. 

He urged the youth to draw inspiration from such great personalities and work for the upliftment of society. He emphasized that the Constitution of India is not merely a legal document but a living social document that binds the country’s diversity into unity.

Highlighting the key features of the Constitution, he said that it is the world’s most detailed written Constitution, incorporating fundamental rights, directive principles of state policy, an independent judiciary, a federal structure and single citizenship. 

He added that the Constitution maintains a balance between rigidity and flexibility, keeping it relevant with changing times. Referring to the functioning of the Constituent Assembly, he said that despite serious differences, decisions were taken with consensus while maintaining the dignity of the House. He stressed that today’s public representatives should follow the same discipline and decorum to further strengthen democracy.

He said that in recent years, India has made unprecedented progress in digital transactions, entrepreneurship and infrastructure development. Today, lakhs of new enterprises have been established in the country, with a large number led by youth and women. This has created new employment opportunities and accelerated the country’s progress towards self-reliance.

On this occasion, Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harvinder Kalyan said that the conference is highly significant for increasing awareness among youth and connecting them with the democratic system. He said that the discussions on constitutional principles, values, the role of the legislature and the duties of citizens are essential for the holistic development of youth.

Motivating the youth, he said that whatever field they choose—medicine, engineering, administration, science or entrepreneurship—they must always keep national interest above all. He emphasized that aware citizens form the foundation of a strong democracy and urged youth to question their representatives, monitor their functioning and actively raise issues concerning society.

Haryana Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Dr. Krishan Lal Middha said that the Constitution of India is not just a collection of papers but the soul of the nation and the strong foundation of the democratic system, guiding us towards justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. 

He stated that legislative work is not limited to making laws but is a process of ensuring justice for every section of society. Dr. Middha called upon the youth to become aware citizens, strengthen democracy and actively contribute towards the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047.
