World Tourism Week celebrations

The Department of Hotel Management and Tourism, Guru Nanak Dev University, commenced its Tourism Week celebrations, aligning with the theme of this year’s World Tourism Day. The celebrations showcasing the talents, creativity, and awareness initiatives led by the Head of Department, Prof. Tejwant Singh Kang.

The event was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Karamjeet Singh, who ceremoniously planted a sapling to mark the beginning of the celebration. He was joined by the Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof. Palwinder Singh, Dean, Student Welfare, Prof. Harvinder Singh, and Registrar, Prof. K.S. Chahal. This marked the beginning of a vibrant week aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and cultural appreciation.

A series of competitions were held on the first day, including: Photography, Best Out of Waste, Rangoli and Poster Making. These activities provided a platform for students to express their artistic perspectives on tourism, sustainability, and cultural heritage.

The event was followed by a specially curated lunch, prepared and served by the students of the department, under the expert guidence of Chef Dr. Harpreet Singh.Vice  Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh, praised the department for organizing Tourism Week and commended the students’ creativity and enthusiasm. 

He emphasized the need to equip students with not only academic knowledge but also values of sustainability, cultural awareness, and environmental responsibility. Continuing the momentum, the second day began with the Quiz Competition, focusing on the theme of Punjab Tourism. 

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, encouraging learning through interactive and engaging methods. Following this, a plantation drive was conducted where students, faculty, and staff actively participated in planting saplings . 

The initiative aimed to promote environmental consciousness and sustainability among the youth. Prof. Tejwant Singh Kang, Head of the Department, appreciated the efforts of the participants and the organizing team. 

He emphasized the significance of blending academic learning with real-world responsibilities like environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism practices.
