Training for Members of Village/Ward Defence Committees on November 6 and 7
Under the ongoing “Yudh Nasheya Virudh” campaign, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal and Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh Hans jointly reviewed the progress of the Nasha Mukti Yatra and community mobilization initiatives aimed at eradicating the drug menace from the district. Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Nasha Mukti Yatra has so far covered almost all villages and wards to sensitize residents about the harmful effects of drugs and to protect the youth from addiction.
She informed that the formation of Village and Ward Defence Committees (VDCs/WDCs) has been completed in the second phase. “In the next phase, beginning in November, training sessions will be organized for these committee members to equip them with knowledge about their roles and responsibilities,” said Mittal.
The district will hold training camps on November 6 and 7, with two sessions each day — morning and afternoon. She emphasized that the role of VDC/WDC members will now be more crucial. “To make our district drug-free, they must actively identify victims for de-addiction and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking through the ‘Yudh Nasheya Virudh’ mobile app,” she said.
The DC also directed civil and police officers to closely coordinate with these committees to ensure that no illegal drug activities take place in their areas. SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans reiterated that the police are fully committed to the anti-drug mission.
He informed that several drug addicts have been admitted to the Government Nasha Mukti Kendra in Sector 66, while others are receiving treatment through the Out-Patient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) Centres. Strict action is also being taken against drug traffickers to break the supply chain, he added.
The SSP directed all Deputy Superintendents of Police to work proactively in collaboration with the local committees to achieve the vision of a drug-free Punjab, as envisioned by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann. Anu Babbar, Zone Coordinator, Yudh Nasheya Virudh campaign, along with District, Halka, and Block Coordinators, assured full cooperation to the district administration and police in rooting out drugs from the region.
ADC (Rural Development) Sonam Chaudhary, SDMs Damandeep Kaur, Divya P, and Amit Gupta, SP Deepika Singh, and DSPs Prithvi Singh Chahal, Harsimran Singh Bal, Karan Singh Sandhu, Vikramjeet Singh Brar, Rajesh Hasthir, and Naveen Pal Singh Lehal were also present in the meeting.
