Komal Mittal Launches Mobile Rural Mart to Boost Marketing of Women’s Self Help Groups’ Products
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today launched a Mobile Rural Mart to promote the sale of food products prepared by the Mahila Ekta Food Producer Company, an organisation comprising 25 Women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) in SAS Nagar. Expressing gratitude to NABARD for extending financial assistance of Rs 1.37 lakh towards the Rs 2.37 lakh project, the DC said the initiative will enable the women entrepreneurs to market their products in urban areas such as Mohali and Kharar.
Highlighting the success of Bhaina Da Farm—an FPO formed by SHGs and active for the past four years—she said that the biggest challenge for women-led SHGs has been access to marketing opportunities, which this mobile mart will help address. The DC directed ADC (Rural Development) Sonam Chaudhary to explore similar innovative marketing models for other high-performing SHGs in the district.
Lead District Manager M.K. Bhardwaj assured continued support from the banking sector for such rural empowerment initiatives. ADC (G) Geetika Singh, Ms Deepika (President, NGO Mahila Kalyan Samiti), and members of the SHGs were also present on the occasion.
