DDC Chairman inaugurates 2 day Seminar on Scientific Beekeeping at Reasi

Reasi : A Two Day Seminar cum Workshop under National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) was today inaugurated District Development Council Chairman Reasi, Sarf Singh Nag.The inauguration was marked by lighting of a ceremonial Lamp in presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Abdul Star; Joint Director Extension, Arvinder Singh Reen; Chief Agriculture Officer, Harbans Singh here in the auditorium of DC office complex.
In his inaugural address, DDC Chairman, Sarf Singh Nag outlined the importance of Bee keeping as part of diversification of agriculture activities. He urged the farmers to adopt honey production on a commercial scale for high remunerative returns. He highlighted the role of Agriculture at grassroots level to raise the rural economy.
He said that the present government is focusing on uplifting the farming community and applauded the role of the Agriculture Department in creating technical awareness among farmers at Panchayat level.Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs), in his keynote address, said that the Department is making every effort to strengthen the apiculture sector.
He highlighted that Bees and other pollinators are crucial for the health of the ecosystem and food security as they help maintain biodiversity and ensure production of healthy food crops. He further said that Jammu region possesses huge potential for Bee Keeping on commercial scale as an additional source of income for the farming community.
A Souvenir was also released on the occasion. Earlier, CAO Reasi, Harbans Singh in his welcome address, presented the overview of Bee keeping in Reasi District.Technical session was conducted by Professor D P Abrol, Member Niti Aayog/ Ex Deen SKUAST, DR Banrasi Lal, Head KVK, Dr Ayez Rishi, ADA Ramban covering a wide range of topics including role of Beekeeping in pollination of various crops, General account of Apiculture scenario, Trends, opportunities besides Economics of Beekeeping.
Sanction letters under the Promotion of Apiculture project-HADP were also handed over to the eligible beneficiaries during the programme.Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Programme Officer, Rajeev Katoch and the programme was coordinated by DAO Inputs, Amit Sharma.
SMS RL, Ashwani Kumar Sharma, ASCO Reasi, Technical officer, Reasi, SDAO Reasi/Dharmari, SMS SDL, Reasi/ Dharmari, AEOs, JAEOs, AEAs and other staff besides large number of farmers and students attended the programme.
