Mega Kissan Mela/ Exhibition held at Shopian

Shopian : The Agriculture department today organised a Kissan Mela cum Exhibition at Old Fruit Mandi, Shopian.The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya was the Chief Guest on the occasion.As many as 20 stalls were established at the venue for displaying various items related to agriculture and allied sectors.During the inspection of the stalls, the DDC was briefed by the officers of agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, sericulture, JK Agro Industries Development Corporation, Cooperative Marketing Society, Handicrafts, Social Welfare, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Animal and Sheep Husbandry departments with regard to their achievements and the latest farmer friendly schemes, equipment’s and technologies.Besides these, some private entrepreneurs also displayed their items during the event.The DDC appreciated the role of the agriculture department for conducting such an event and bringing all the allied sectors under one roof to work for the upliftment of the farming community, thereby paving way for progress of the district and simultaneously addressing the issue of un-employment of youth to a large extent.He also laid emphasis on the farming community to take advantage of various schemes of agriculture and its allied sectors that are in vogue for their better future. He further stressed that the need of the hour is to promote agriculture and all allied sectors in the district which are income and employment generating.Later, cheques and appreciation letters were also distributed among the progressive farmers of the district and the officers who performed well in this regard.Chief Agriculture Officer, Shopian, Gh Hassan Magray, Chief Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr. Mohammad Amin, Officers and Officials of Agriculture department, besides other concerned and a large number of farmers were present.
