Kathua district all set to take Mushroom cultivation to next level

Vice Chairman DDC flags off loads of pasteurized compost bags to remote areas of Bani

Kathua : The Vice Chairman District Development Council, Kathua Raghunandan Singh on Wednesday flagged off 1000 pasteurized Compost Bags to far- flung areas of Bani sub division for promotion of Mushroom Cultivation there.

Chief Agriculture Officer, Kathua Sanjeev Rai Gupta and other District Level Agriculture Officers and Officials of the Agriculture Department Kathua were present on the occasion.

A Van carrying the first batch pasteurized Compost bags, prepared at Trikuta Intensive Mushroom Development Corridor in Burmal Farm – Hiranagar sub division were dispatched for its onward distribution among the farmers of fur-flung areas of Bani sub division.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chairman, DDC Kathua asked the farmers to maintain liaison with field functionaries of Agriculture Department Kathua to know about departmental schemes launched with the aim to double the farmers’ income.

The Chief Agriculture Officer, Sanjeev Rai Gupta, appealed to the farmers, especially those living in far flung areas of District Kathua, to grow off season mushroom to make good earnings.

He said the other major crops like Colour Cabbage, Colour Cauliflower, Colour Capsicum, Cherry Tomato, Broccoli, Colour Radish, Green Peas, Carrot, and Brinjal etc can also be grown as Off Season vegetables in far off areas.

While throwing light on the concept of Off-Season vegetable production, the CAO said the production of vegetables other than regular season will enhance farmers’ income and motivated them to go for commercial cultivation.

Besides, District Agriculture Officer (Ext.) Kathua, Area Development Officer (Veg.), Mushroom Development Officer Kathua, Assistant Soil Chemist, Kathua, Subject Matter Specialist (District Level) and other officers were also present on the occasion.
