DC Poonch Yasin M. Choudhary chairs NCORD meeting to review drug control measures in Poonch District

Poonch : Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M. Choudhary today chaired the meeting of district-level committee under Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review action taken on directions issued in the previous NCORD meeting and discuss the measures to curb drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district.
During the meeting, SSP Poonch, Vinay Kumar, gave a comprehensive brief on the steps taken to tackle the drug menace in the district. He also presented detailed information on the number of properties seized of the drug peddlers and other initiatives taken by the police department in curbing the sale of drugs in the District.
A range of issues related to the incidence of drug addiction, hot spots of drug abuse, measures being taken in the district etc were taken for detailed deliberations. The Deputy Commissioner stressed to intensify the awareness campaigns among the general public regarding the drug abuse.
He asked the concerned to focus on declaring more Panchayats Nasha Mukt Free and also conducting regular meetings of Panchayat Level Committees. He directed the ARTO (Assistant Regional Transport Officer) to organize a special testing drive for the Drivers.
The Drug Inspector was directed to ensure 100 percent installation of CCTV cameras in the chemist shops and other associated locations to ensure proper monitoring of drugs related activities. The Principals of Degree Colleges were directed to organise awareness programmes on drug de-addiction focusing on villages near LOC and also conduct breath analyser tests in their respective colleges.
The DC directed the enforcement agencies to take action under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) against persons selling tobacco products in the 100-metre radius of educational institutions. Stressing on the need of sustained and coordinated efforts from all stakeholders, DC said that District Administration has adopted a zero tolerance policy against menace of drugs in the district.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police, Vinay Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Tahir Mustafa Malik (JKAS), PO ICDS, Khalid Hussain Wafa, Principal Degree Colleges, CMO Poonch, Anees Altaf Nabi, SDM Mendhar, Jahangir Khan, Tehsildar Surankote/Balakote/Mankote, Drug inspector besides other concerned officers were present.
