District Admin commemorates National Girl Child Day with empowering initiatives at GCW Udhampur

Udhampur : District Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with Women Empowerment and Development Cell, Government College for Women Udhampur, a beacon of education, proudly joined the nation in celebrating National Girl Child Day, today.
This annual observance holds special significance for the Department of Social Welfare and GCW Udhampur as it aligns with the commitment to foster an environment that nurtures the potential and aspirations of every woman.Under the programme, the Women Empowerment and Development Cell pledges to continue its efforts to promote gender equality, empowering female students, and breaking down societal barriers that may hinder their progress.
Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, the Chief Guest of the programme, focused on the importance of celebrating the events which highlight the role of women in society and also set in the discussion among the common masses. She praised the efforts of the Department of Social Welfare and GCW Udhampur for carrying out such programmes at grassroots level and instilling values in students that contribute to positive societal change.

This includes scholarships, mentorship programs, and a supportive campus culture that encourages diversity and inclusion.”In commemoration of National Girl Child Day, District Administration Udhampur had organized a series of events and activities during this week. The events were coordinated and sponsored by the District Social Welfare Department along with One Stop Centre for women and District Hub for Empowerment of Women Udhampur under the guidance of SWO Kanika Gupta.
The activities included special gram sabhas with special focus on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, Webinar organised on the theme “Rights of Girl Child” for GCW Udhampur and students of different school focusing on the different acts designed to inspire, educate, and empower our female students with participation of more than 300 students, distribution of Mamta kits at Panchayat level and awareness generation about the scheme, pasting of stickers in all the government offices and public areas, Nukad natak, distribution of Sanitary napkin vending machine and incinerator machines to schools and college, sports activity to promote healthy lifestyle amongst girls, nukkad natak on the theme of importance of girls education.
In the final leg of the program today coinciding with on National Girl Child Day, the organizers hosted a Valedictory Session wherein the winners of Intra- College competitions competed in the Inter-College Competitions in the events included Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition on gender equality. The event also witnessed the felicitation of winners. The weeklong celebration of district level program culminated with cultural events at GCW Udhampur with a skit on Girl child and a folk dance performed by the students of the host College.
Prof. Mool Raj also presented a beautiful composition on girl child. Subdar Ali, GDC Majalta, Aayushi Mahajan, GCW Udhampur, Praveen Akhter, GDC Chenani bagged the first, second and third prize in Symposium competition, while Ramneek Sharma, GDC, Neeli Nallah, Simran, GDC Udhampur, Priya, GDC Chenani bagged positions in Poster Making Competition. Rekha, GDC Neeli Nallah, Simran, GDC Chenani and Shikha from GCW Udhampur bagged the three positions in Slogan Writing Competition. The jury members included Prof. Sushma, Prof. Rukhsana and Prof. Varun. The programme proceedings were carried out by Parvinder Kour.
Earlier, the welcome address was presented by Prof. Anjali Mahajan, while the program report was presented by Dr. Shivani Suri Verma and the Vote of thanks by Dr. Kamal Deep Kaur. All the faculty members, teaching and non- teaching staff attended the programme.
