SVEEP campaign: Live Demonstration of EVM held at Basohli Billawar

Kathua : As part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign, a live demonstration of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) was conducted at Sub District Hospitals (SDH) Basohli and Billawar, aimed at raising awareness about civic responsibility and democratic processes among the public and staff of the Health Department.
The event, organized by the respective Electoral Registration Officer under the supervision of District Election Officer Kathua, witnessed an enthusiastic participation from the local community and health department personnel. The demonstration served to acquaint attendees with the functioning of the EVM machine, providing step-by-step practical demonstrations of all three components: the Control Unit, Ballot Unit, and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT).
The demonstration was conducted under the supervision of a dedicated team of Election Cell, who explained the significance of each component and demonstrated its usage in the electoral process. Participants were given hands-on experience to understand the procedures involved in casting votes using EVMs and verifying their choices through the VVPAT system.
Commenting on the initiative, DEO Kathua Dr Rakesh Minhas (DC Kathua) stated, “Our aim with this live demonstration was to empower citizens with knowledge about the voting process and encourage their active participation in democratic processes. By familiarizing them with the functioning of EVMs and VVPATs, we aim to enhance transparency and trust in the electoral system.”
The event also served as an opportunity to address any doubts or queries regarding the electoral process and voting machines, ensuring that participants left with a clear understanding of their role in shaping the nation’s future through their votes.
