DM Ramban Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary chairs District Road Safety Committee meet
Directs to launch systematic awareness drive to sensitize youth, drivers about road safety measures

Ramban : Take all measures on National Highway and other link roads to contain road accidents and to save precious lives, District Magistrate Ramban, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary directed the officers of stakeholder departments, while chairing District Road Safety Committee meeting, here today.
Discussing different issues regarding road safety, the DM directed ARTO, Police and Traffic Police Department to involve all the stakeholders in the efforts being made to minimise the road accidents, and generate awareness about road safety among masses.
Among others, Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Rohit Baksotra, ADC, Harbans Sharma, Addl. SP Gourav Mahajan, ARTO Samrinder Singh, PD, NHAI, PIU, Ramban, Parshotam Kumar, Executive Engineers PW(R&B) Department Division Ramban and Banihal and other concerned officers attended the meeting, while SSP, Ramban attend the meeting in virtual mode .
Asking stakeholder departments to conduct road safety audit ensure maintenance of roads, the DM directed them to execute projects as per Detailed Project Reports (DPR) ensuring quality of work.The DM also directed the Police, Traffic Police and Motor Vehicle Department to take strict action against traffic rules violators to control over-loading and over-speeding on NH-44 and other link roads, besides sensitizing the drivers to avoid drunken driving to prevent mishaps on the roads.
Directing ARTO to submit a route-wise detailed list of passenger vehicles along with their carrying capacity, the DM directed for conducting routine fitness tests of all the vehicles and to make unfit vehicles off-road.
He directed the ARTO and the Police Department to launch a systematic awareness campaign to sensitize the youth by conducting mass awareness programmes on the road safety in vocational and higher educational institutions. He also directed to take all the stakeholders on board to implement the traffic rules on the ground.
The Executive Engineers of PW(R&B) Department were asked to install crash barriers at identified locations along roadsides. The DM also directed to ensure maintenance of Mahu road for the convenience of the general public.
Reviewing the status of construction and black-topping of road projects in the district, the DM directed PD, NHAI, PIU Ramban and Police Department to ensure proper functioning of all CCTV cameras installed alongside NH-44 on Nashri-Banihal road stretch.
The DM directed ARTO and Traffic Police to conduct joint Nakkas to check the traffic rule violations, besides sensitizing the people on-the-spot about road safety. He also directed to paste QR Code stickers in vehicles to contact Police to report violations of traffic rules, if any.
SSP, Traffic and SSP, Ramban also suggested a range of measures to contain the mishaps which include identification and rectification of black-spots, fitness test of vehicles, conduct of medical camps for drivers, identification and installation of mirrors on sharp curves on NH-44, installation of cameras in private vehicles,and paste of stickers in passenger vehicles printed with Police contact numbers.
Reviewing the pace of progress of four-lanning NH-44 Nashri-Banihal road stretch, the DM directed the concerned to accelerate the pace of work to meet the deadline for completion of the prestigious National project.
