ACD Shopian holds meeting with PRI members

Shopian : The Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Shopian, Hilal Ahmed today convened a meeting with PRI members of the district.On the occasion, the ACD took note of the demands raised by the PRI members for making concerted efforts to strengthen the Panchayati Raj System and ensure their full involvement in planning and execution of development works.ACD as part of this endeavour, while chairing the meeting of Panchayat members of concerned blocks, discussed the measures for strengthening and devolution of powers to these grass roots level institutions.He said, PRIs can play a vital role in development, adding that they have first hand knowledge of problems and issues of the people.These institutions can provide effective feedback to the administration about the implementation of the schemes and help it to remove the bottlenecks if any.

The ACD called upon PRIs to make positive contributions towards development, adding that the line departments have been directed to provide assistance to the Panchayats to meet their objectives. He said that the BDOs have been directed to hold meetings for which Panchayats should come up with specific development plans.ACD called upon PRIs to act as an interface between public and administration and also to coordinate with each other. During the meeting, the panchayat representatives put forth various demands including augmentation of potable water supply, improvement of roads and improvement in power distribution system, repair /replacement of damaged transformers besides various other demands.Among others BDOs, Sarpanchs, Panchs and other concerned were present in the meeting.
