Mumbai : Afghanistan has currently occupied the centre stage of media and public attention, and has been doing so since quite some time now, due to the ongoing Taliban takeover and war crises. People have been forced out of their homes and many continue to fear the Talibani atrocities as to what fate might the Afghans be sentenced to. Several citizens have lost their lives and were separated from their loved ones while making desperate attempts at fleeing the now dangerous country that once used to be their safe place, their motherland. #1 Kabul Express
This 2006 thriller fiction by Kabir Khan released in December revolves around the lives of two Indian journalists, Suhel Khan, played by John Abraham and Jai Kapoor, played by Arshad Warsi, who are assigned to cover the lives of citizens in Afghanistan, invaded by US in September 2001, who then meet an American journalist, Jessica Beckham, played by Linda Arsenio, sent with a purpose to report for the US over the Afghanistan war.
The characters are then thrown into a spiral of events as they make their way through the war-stricken country, trying to escape from the clutches of Taliban.
#2 Torbaaz
This 2020 action drama thriller by Girish Malik was released on Netflix in December 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation. Sanjay Dutt plays the role of a medical professional who gets assigned in the Indian Embassy in Kabul and ends up losing his wife and son during bomb blasts, by children who are trained to work as suicide bombers for the sake of glorious afterlife.
#3 Khuda Gawah
This 1992 epic romance drama featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi in lead roles, was written and directed by Mukul S. Anand. The story revolves around Badshah Khan, played by Amitabh, who falls in love with Benazir, played by Sridevi, and wants to marry her. The lady agrees to marry him on a condition that he must find and bring her the head of her father’s killer ‘Habibullah’. Following her demand, Badshah Khan embarks on his mission to kill Habibullah and travels from Afghanistan to India and finally succeeds. However he then ends up being accused of murder and finds himself taken into custody in India.
#4 Dharmatma
This 1975 thriller directed by Feroz Khan and written by Kaushal Bharti marks the first ever Hindi film to have been filmed in Afghanistan. Revolving around a wealthy and influential person Seth Dharamdas, played by Prem Nath, who is referred to by the people as ‘Dharmatma’, for using his financial prosperity to help those suffering and in need. However he has a dark past, life as a dreaded gangster, burried deep down which his son Ranbir, played by Feroz Khan, is bent on digging up and exposing his dark side to those who consider him to be a nobel one, and this remains the only one whom his father despises and fears of.
#5 Agent Vinod
This 2012 action adventure by Sriram Raghavan features Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles. The story revolves around Agent Vinod, played by Saif Ali Khan, who sets on a mission to find the reason behind his colleague Rajan’s death. He gets held captive by an ISI official named Huzefa, inside a Taliban camp in Afghanistan, for interrogation as he is suspected to be a RAW agent. A series of terrifying events take place as Agent Vinod decodes a much greater conspiracy.
