Anganwadi Workers Union extends support to SAD
Sukhbir S Badal visits the dharna site of Anganwadi workers, expresses solidarity with them

Mohali : The All Punjab Anganwadi Workers Union today while condemning the Congress government for discriminating against Anganwadi workers since the last four and a half years, extended support to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the forthcoming assembly election.Anganwadi Workers Union President Hargobind Kaur made this announcement when SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal reached their dharna site here to express solidarity with them. Mrs Hargobind Kaur said former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh had refused to meet them during the last four and a half years and even now the Congress government was not doing anything to address their concerns. “The government has not even allowed erection of tents at the dharna site due to which we have to agitate in extreme heat conditions”, she added.
The SAD President, who reached the dharna site in the afternoon, said the erstwhile SAD government had always addressed the grievances of Anganwadi workers. “Former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had always kept his doors open to hold talks with them as well as other employee unions. It is unfortunate that during the present government Anganwadi workers were ‘lathi charged’ and even false cases were registered against them.Mr Badal said once the SAD formed a government in the State it would look into all the problems faced by them and resolve them at the earliest. “I agree that the honorarium being given to Anganwadi workers is very less and needs to be revised appropriately”. He also praised the role of Anganwadi workers during the period of Covid pandemic, saying they had worked as Covid warriors but did not get the required recognition.Senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema was also present on the occasion.
