The nation which forgets its revolutionaries is not good for that nation : Anil Vij

Chandigarh : Haryana Home and Health Minister, Anil Vij said that ‘we need to know our history and the nation which forgets its revolutionaries is not good for that nation’.Sh. Vij was addressing the gathering at SD College, Ambala Cantonment after the release of the book ‘Ambala and Freedom Struggle of India’ written on the history of Ambala by Dr. Yuvi Singh, former HOD and historian of the college’s history department today.He said that in the memory of unsung heroes who made their contribution in the freedom struggle, 22 acres of Shahidi Samarak is being constructed in Ambala Cantonment itself. That’s why historians are looking for information about all those revolutionaries who played their part in the freedom struggle. Earlier, Home Minister Anil Vij released the book. On reaching the program, College Principal Dr. Rajendra Singh, Dr. KC Yadav, Prof. Naveen Gulati, Dr. Deshbandhu and others welcomed him. On this occasion, BJP Mandal President Rajiv Gupta Dimple, Balkesh Vats, Sanjeev Walia, Vipin Khanna and other dignitaries were present.

Every man eager to know what is the role of Ambala in freedom struggle – Vij

Congratulating Dr. Yuvi Singh on releasing the book, the Home Minister said that everyone wants to know what was the role of Ambala in the freedom struggle. He said that every person wants to know about what happened in the freedom movement in 1857.Anil Vij said that ‘I have also been raising this voice before the government for a long time that the first war of independence started from Ambala Cantonment, but in the memory of those unsung heroes, no songs were ever sung in their memory. A memorial should be built, since 2000, I have been raising this voice continuously in front of various governments. Now a Shahidi Samarak is being constructed in Ambala Cantonment in the memory of those martyrs.

Jung-e-Azadi was started in Ambala Cantonment before Meerut -Vij

Anil Vij said that as told by historian Dr. Yuvi Singh and it is also described in the book that in 1857 Jung-e-Azadi started from Ambala before Meerut. The revolutionaries started the war by setting fire to the houses of British officers, it did not start suddenly, it was an organized to protest against the British. He said that there were protests at many places in the country at that time, but the same protest took place in the whole country from May 10, 1857. As it is being told that lotus flower and roti were used as a message then and it is also read in the books that the main plan was made from Ambala cantonment itself.
He said that May 10 was a Sunday and Sunday all the British used to go to the church to pray. The plan was that when everyone is praying, they will be imprisoned and eliminated and go ahead and the whole country will be liberated. But due to some reasons the freedom struggle could not succeeded. The Home Minister said that research is being done on who were punished and tortured at that time, who were shot and hanged. To show all these things, a Shahidi Samarak of the first freedom struggle is being built in 22 acres. The Shahidi Samarak will be built in three phases, in which Ambala in the first phase, Haryana in the second phase and what happened in the country in the third phase will be shown.

Countrymen had the spirit of independence since the birth of congress- Vij

The Home Minister said that it is our misfortune that after independence we were taught that Congress fought the freedom struggle, but Congress was born in 1885 by an Englishman AO Hume. The first war of independence had started in the year 1857, 28 years before the birth of Congress. That is, the spirit of independence was already there in the Indians. Efforts are being made to remember the unsung heroes of the freedom struggle. A team of 5 big historians of India has been formed to show history in the Shahidi Samarak, in which includes Dr. Yuvi Singh.

I am a product of this college, do not say the chief guest – Vij

Sh. Vij said that ‘I have been a student of this college and I have studied science from here, when I am called as the chief guest in the college, I feel helpless, I started politics from here, then I went to the student council, I am a product of this college, which I am because of this college. Call me old student and this is my college.

Historian and author of the book ‘Ambala and Freedom Struggle of India’, Dr. Yuvi Singh told that the history of old Ambala has been written in this book of 188 pages. The Ambala whose boundaries were from Ropar to Jagadhri. Under what circumstances the British settled in Ambala Cantonment, how they settled Ambala Cantonment in a planned manner and many other important information has been written in it.
