75 Amrit Sarovar to be constructed in each district under Catch the Rain program: Ram Subhag Singh

CS reviews drought situation and other developmental works in state

Shimla : While presiding over the meeting organized to review the drought situation arising in the state and various developmental activities going on in the state Chief Secretary Ram Subhag Singh said that to strengthen the water level and recharge the natural water sources, 75-75 Amrit Sarovars were being constructed in all the districts of the state under the Catch the Rain program on priority basis.All the Deputy Commissioners of the state virtually participated in the meeting.CS said that to aware the people on water conservation, it has been associated with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and the tricolor would be hoisted on all these Amrit Sarovars to be constructed in the districts by senior citizens (above the age of 75 years) of the area or by the next to kin of the martyr on 15th August, 2022.

He directed all the Deputy Commissioners that new structures of Amrit Sarovars should be constructed in all the districts on priority basis and adequate arrangements should be made to hoist the tricolor there.He also directed all the DCs that efforts should be made to conserve, rejuvenate and clean the natural water sources and geo-tagging on priority basis.The Chief Secretary directed the Deputy Commissioners to take all possible steps as needed to tackle the drought situation. He directed the Jal Shakti Department to interlink drinking water schemes to solve the problem of water scarcity and to take necessary steps to recharge the sources of such schemes and provide adequate quantity of drinking water through hand pumps also.CS asked the Agriculture Department to prepare a plan for supply of fodder for the animals and arranging husk etc.Principal Secretary Forest Rajneesh, Secretary Horticulture Amitabh Awasthi, Secretary Agriculture Rakesh Kanwar, PCCF Forest Ajay Srivastava and other senior officers attended the meeting.
