Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flags off awareness rally on Environment Day

Shimla : Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off an awareness rally from his official residence Oak Over here today on the occasion of International Environment Day. Students of Government Senior Secondary Schools Portmore, Sanjauli and Shimla Public School, as well as volunteers from the Shimla Municipal Corporation took part in the rally.
Cyclists also joined the awareness rally. He also administered an oath of environmental protection to the participants on the occasion. During an informal interaction with the media, the Chief Minister emphasized that Himachal Pradesh is making diligent efforts to protect the environment.
He said that the State Government has implemented several measures to check the pollution and preservation of the environment, adding that Himachal Pradesh is the first state in the country to ban single-use plastic. Recognized as Devbhoomi, Himachal Pradesh aims to instill a sense of environmental consciousness among the youth through awareness drives, he added.
Highlighting the commitment of the State Government towards preservation of environment in the State, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the State Government has presented a green budget, which incorporates various measures for promoting environmental conservation and sustainability.
MLAs, Harish Janartha, Kewal Singh Pathania, Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor, Uma Kaushal, Director of Environment, Science, and Technology Lalit Jain and other dignitaries were also present amongst others.
