Involve youth in sports to check drug menace: Kultar Singh Sandhwan

Kharar : Netball Promotion Association Punjab, in association with Rayat Bahra University organized 20th Punjab State Netball Championship (for Men and Women), and Second Punjab State Fast 5 Netball Championship (Men and Women) 2023-24.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan was the chief guest at the prize distribution function today.Speaking on the occasion he appreciated the initiative of Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor of Rayat Bahra University, in organizing the championship.
He underlined the role of sports and said that the Punjab government was committed to promotion of sports in the state. ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Dian’ started last year evoked massive response from people of all age groups as the events were open to all. Buoyed by the success of the Games these were now being organized for the second year.
In an informal interaction with media persons, Sandhwan said that he was aware of the menace of drug addiction which had taken deep roots in Punjab. He said that the government was committed to deal with this problem and massive recovery of drugs was made during the last one year.
He said that it was important to involve youth in sporting activities to wean them away from the clutches of drug addiction. He underlined the importance of cooperation and support of the general public in this war against drugs.
Dr Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Rayat Bahra University, spoke about the steps being taken by the Rayat Bahra University for promotion of sports.Ravinder Singh SDM Kharar, Additional advocate general Sumandeep Singh walia ,all deans , directors and faculty members were also present .
Mohinder Kumar Kapil, Chairman of the Punjab State Netball Development Committee, said Netball Promotion Association (Regd.) Punjab, was affiliated to Netball Federation of India, International Netball Federation, Asian Netball Federation and Indian Olympic Association, and was recognized by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
He said the following were the results of the 20th Senior State:
Men: 1. Ludhiana; 2. Fazilka, 3. Patiala and TarnTaran.
Women: 1. Patiala; 2. Barnala, 3. Fatehgarh Sahib and Bathinda.
2nd Senior State FAST 5:
Men- 1. Ludhiana, 2. Fazilka, 3. Sangrur and Patiala.
Women: – 1. Patiala, 2. Bathinda, 3. Fatehgarh Sahib and Malerkotla.
