CGC Landran to build solar-charging station in village Sawara

S.A.S.Nagar (Mohali) : Driven by the motive of helping promote and disseminate environment friendly technology for generating sustainable employment opportunities, ACIC-RISE association, CGC Landran will be setting up a solar charging station, in village Sawara, SAS Nagar, Mohali.

Part of the a project approved by Department of Science & Technology (DST), government of India, this initiative will have multiple benefits for the rural community who will be aided by way of convenience in charging of e-rickshaws/carts as well as solar-powered sewing machines used by women self help groups in the village, free of cost.

Helping communities generate sustainable livelihood opportunities and encouraging them to adopt clean energy resources forms the core of this project. The solar charging station once fully established will facilitate conversion of solar energy into electricity. It would have multiple charging ports which will allow several e-rickshaws/e-carts, solar-powered sewing machines to get charged, simultaneously.

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the solar charging facility was led by Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC Landran who was accompanied by dignitaries including Dr. Alkesh Kandoria, Principal Scientific Officer, Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, Kamaljeet Kaur, Sarpanch, village Sawara, Dr. Rajinder Mohan Kashyap, Founder, Solar Ashram, Dr Harbinder Singh, Professor, Associate Dean Research & CEO, ACIC RISE, CGC Landran, Dr. Amresh Kumar, Professor & Project Head Coordinator, CGC Landran, among others.

Addressing the residents of the village, Mr Dhaliwal urged them to come together and be open to exploring and adopting renewable or clean energy resources and reap the myriad benefits that they entail. He assured them of CGC’s unwavering support in this direction highlighting the institution’s commitment to promoting rural entrepreneurship including women entrepreneurs through CGC Landran’s ACIC RISE association.
