Majha Volunteers Trained as Punjab Intensifies War Against Drugs
Under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, a special training program for all District and Block Coordinators of the Majha Zone of the Nasha Mukti Morcha was organized today at the Silver Jubilee Convention Hall of Guru Nanak Dev University as part of the ongoing “War Against Drugs” campaign to make Punjab drug-free.
The program was attended by Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab in-charge Shri Manish Sisodia, State Public Works Minister S. Harbhajan Singh ETO, Transport and Jails Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar, Majha Zone Coordinator of the Nasha Mukti Morcha Sonia Mann, along with MLAs from all districts of Majha and other senior leaders.
On this occasion, Majha Zone Coordinator Sonia Mann, while addressing the coordinators, instructed them to hold meetings in every village with Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and Ward Defence Committees (WDCs) and mobilize them for the anti-drug campaign. She said that from next week, volunteers will restart meetings in villages and cities and will go door-to-door to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs.
She encouraged all volunteers to contribute to the campaign with full enthusiasm. SDMs and other administrative officers from all districts of Majha also joined the training program virtually. Senior AAP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Shri Manish Sisodia, said that Punjab is fighting a well-planned and multi-dimensional battle against drugs, the likes of which are rarely seen anywhere in the world.
He stated that this is not merely a government initiative but a historic mass movement. He emphasized that no campaign can succeed without public participation, and therefore, efforts are being made to involve as many people of Punjab as possible. With public support, this war against drugs will be won.
He further said that the volunteers present are the frontline warriors of this campaign. He urged them to report any drug-related activity in their surroundings to the government and assured that the AAP government is committed to taking strict action against drug traffickers. He added that the dream of a drug-free Punjab envisioned by AAP National Convener Shri Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will be fulfilled without any compromise.
State Public Works Minister S. Harbhajan Singh ETO, while addressing the gathering, said that since the launch of the “War Against Drugs” campaign on March 1, 2025, a total of 38,119 FIRs have been registered across the state and 54,190 drug traffickers have been arrested. He informed that recoveries include 2,384 kg heroin, 715 kg opium, 303 quintals poppy husk, 834 kg cannabis, 51.35 lakh intoxicant tablets/capsules, 36 kg ICE, and drug money worth ₹17 crore.
He reiterated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is fully committed to making the state drug-free. On this occasion, the State’s Transport and Jails Minister, S. Laljit Singh Bhullar, said that the Punjab Government, following a zero-tolerance policy, is taking strict legal action against every drug trafficker, and anti-social and anti-human elements involved in drug peddling will not be spared under any circumstances.
He stated that the Mann Government has jailed major drug traffickers and has also demolished properties acquired through drug trade. He added that the state government’s policy regarding the eradication of drugs is absolutely clear. He further said that, along with this, the state government is ensuring treatment and rehabilitation of youth trapped in drug addiction and is helping them reintegrate into the mainstream.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Shri Dalwinderjit Singh shared details about various initiatives being undertaken by the district administration for the anti-drug campaign. Police Commissioner Shri Gurpreet Singh Bhullar also elaborated on the legal actions being taken against drug traffickers. On this occasion, coordinators of the Majha Zone who made notable contributions to the campaign were specially honored.
