Guru Nanak Dev University hosts orientation conclave on Punjab’s future

Guru Nanak Dev University organised an orientation conclave on the theme “Gall Punjab Di: Saadi Mitti, Saadi Soch, Saada Bhavikh”, bringing together academicians, experts and students to deliberate on the state’s socio-economic future. Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh said Punjab, being an agrarian state, holds immense potential in agriculture and allied sectors. 

He emphasised that the use of artificial intelligence could significantly boost agricultural productivity in the coming years. He called for motivating the youth to explore opportunities in agriculture and related industries instead of migrating abroad, urging them to contribute to the nation’s development.

Highlighting the university’s initiatives, the VC said vocational education had been integrated into academic curricula to enhance employability and encourage entrepreneurship among students. He added that special emphasis was being laid on promoting Punjabi language in research to ensure that knowledge reaches the wider public.

The conclave was organised at Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan Auditorium in collaboration with the Dean, College Development Council. Among the key speakers were Dr. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, and Dr. Anil Kumar Angrish from the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, SAS Nagar.

Eminent personalities associated with the “Gall Punjab Di” initiative, including Giani Raghbir Singh, former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Mata Charan Kamal Kaur, Chairperson, Kartar Aasra Trust, and Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad, also shared their views. The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Saroj Arora, Dean, College Development Council. 

It was attended by Dr. H.S. Saini, Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. K.S. Chahal, Registrar, principals, faculty members and students from affiliated colleges. Dr. Rajeev Ahuja underlined that the objective of the conclave was to create a structured academic platform involving teachers and students to address Punjab’s socio-economic challenges through dialogue and collaborative efforts. 

He said faculty coordinators and student groups would be identified to actively participate in shaping solutions. During the sessions, speakers highlighted key challenges facing the state and stressed the need for technological inclusion, ethical values and youth engagement. 

Giani Raghbir Singh emphasised making technology accessible to farmers, while S. Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad urged the youth to stand against injustice. Mata Charan Kamal Kaur spoke about the importance of moral education in building a progressive society.

The conclave concluded with a vote of thanks by the organisers, expressing gratitude to all participants and dignitaries.
