First State Highway Trauma Centre of Punjab to Come Up in Sunam, Thanks to Efforts Aman Arora

As part of the Punjab Government’s mission to provide world-class healthcare facilities across the state, the first State Highway Trauma Centre of Punjab is being set up in Sunam, owing to the persistent efforts of Cabinet Minister Mr. Aman Arora. The foundation stone of the 10-bed trauma centre was laid at the Sunam Sub-Divisional Hospital by Mr. Arora.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Aman Arora stated that currently, only five trauma centres are operational in Punjab, located in Jalandhar, Khanna, Pathankot, Ferozepur, and Fazilka, all situated along National Highways. The trauma centre in Sunam will be the first of its kind on a State Highway, and will cater to accident victims from across the Malwa belt—from Fazilka to Chandigarh—by providing timely emergency care and comprehensive treatment.

“This wasn’t merely a public demand,” said Mr. Arora, “but a long-standing personal commitment I have worked towards for the past three years. The Fazilka-Chandigarh stretch lacks a single trauma centre. With the establishment of this facility, lakhs of commuters passing through this route will benefit.”

He announced that the construction of the trauma centre building is scheduled to be completed within the next eight months. In response to media queries, Mr. Arora highlighted the lack of recruitment in government hospitals under previous governments.

However, since the formation of the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government, recruitment drives are actively underway across various departments, including the Health Department. “Within the next year, shortages of doctors and paramedical staff in state hospitals will be addressed alongside improvements to infrastructure,” he assured.

He further informed that approximately ₹19 crore has already been spent on Sunam Hospital alone. Recent developments include a new OPD block with 9 consultation rooms, a blood bank, and the construction of a regional drug warehouse serving six districts, currently progressing on war footing.

Mr. Arora emphasized, “The development of the Sunam constituency and the welfare of its residents is my duty. The people have entrusted me with this responsibility, and I am committed to fulfilling it.”

He reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to strengthening the sectors of healthcare, education, and core infrastructure across the state. Ever since the Aam Aadmi Party assumed power, inclusive and priority-based development has been the primary focus.

The foundation-laying ceremony was attended by SDM Ms. Manjeet Kaur, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sanjay Kamra, SDO Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Municipal Council President Nishan Singh Tony, Market Committee Chairman Mukesh Juneja, constituency organisation in-charge Avtar Singh Eilwal, party members Manpreet Bansal, Manni Sarao, and a large number of local residents.
